This Grafted tree produces an abundance of super sweet pears that begin ripening on the tree in mid-November. The original tree is HUGE for a pear tree. It has over a 6’ circumference at the bottom, stands well over 60’ tall, and is a 60+ year old tree with zero signs of ever having fire blight. When I gained permission to be able to access this tree, the owner stated to me “o that pear, the deer really love that one”. I knew this because I had been watching this pear for years that even in Pennsylvania’s heavily pressured rifle deer season it was a given that morning or evening there would be deer under this tree.
This tree produces an abundance of super sweet pears ripening on the tree, remaining palatable and begin dropping mid-November 2 weeks after kieffer pear. Rifle Deer Pear™ only drops for a few short weeks….Therefore making this a powerful and fast draw that typically ends the 1st week of December. As I observed this pear tree dropping, one thing I noted was there were never any on the ground and always loaded with deer sign! This tree produces an abundance of pears annually.
The Rifle Deer Pear™ would be perfect for jams and jellies, but we’re not looking for that here. We are looking for a tree that’s highly desirable by deer and this tree is one of them! This tree has seen a low temperature of -22 degrees that would place it hardy in zone 4b. However, This makes it a solid pear tree for planting in Hardiness zones 5-8. Rifle deer pear will reach a height of 20’+.

Description
RIFLE DEER PEAR™
The original Rifle Deer Pear™ tree is HUGE for a pear tree. It has over a 6’ circumference at the bottom, stands well over 60’ tall, and is a 60+-year-old tree with zero signs of ever having fire blight. When I gained permission to be able to access this tree, the owner stated to me, “o that pear, the deer really love that one.” I knew this because I had been watching this pear for years. During Pennsylvania’s heavily pressured rifle deer season, it was a given that morning or evening that there would be deer under this tree.
This tree produces an abundance of super sweet pears ripening on the tree, remaining palatable, and begin dropping in late-November, two weeks after Kieffer pear. Rifle Deer Pear™ only drops for a few short weeks…. Therefore making this a powerful and fast draw that typically ends the 1st week of December. As I observed this pear tree dropping, I noted that there were never any on the ground and always loaded with deer signs! This tree produces an abundance of pears annually.
The Rifle Deer Pear™ would be perfect for jams and jellies, but we’re not looking for that here. We are looking for a tree that’s highly desirable by deer and this tree is one of them! This tree has seen a low temperature of -22 degrees that would place it hardy in zone 4.
However, This makes it a solid pear tree for planting in Hardiness zones 5-8. Rifle deer pear will reach a height of 20’+.

The Rifle Deer Pear™ is made by using plant tissue from the original tree and attaching it to the new roots. This is essentially giving you an identical tree of the one you see in the picture and description.

STANDARD ROOTSTOCK
A vigorous, standard-sized rootstock (20-30 feet high) that is adaptable to acidic soils, poor soil conditions, and fertility. Produces a strong well-anchored tree, that performs well in heavy soils. As a result, it will be good for more marginal areas like wooded food plots, reclaimed land, shale mountain soil, dryer uplands, and ridges and tolerating more moist soils. We are only selecting the most vigorous standard rootstock to graft onto. This rootstock is cold, hardy zones 4b – 8.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR RIFLE DEER PEAR™
Plant at least 2 different pear varieties within close proximity to each other to ensure pollination. The varieties of grafted pears we have for sale will blossom and overlap each other giving you excellent pollination. The Danville Kieffer pear tree is an excellent pollinator for both Asian and European varieties of pears.
Plant all pear trees in moist, well-drained soil with a soil ph between 5.5 – 7.2 with adequate nutrient levels for optimal growth. The above soil conditions will provide the most growth and fruit production. Pears are one fruit tree that will also tolerate acidic soils with poor fertility. A fruit tree requires at least 6 hours of sunlight for fruit production and growth. Space trees 20′ apart and use cages of at least 5’ to protect your trees. This will ensure your deer eat your fruit in a few years, not your trees this year.
