Hunter’s deer pear™ is a grafted pear tree that is annually productive, producing a European-style pear that produces multiple-sized pears, dropping from October to November. The taste is sweet and above the Kieffer pear in late fall. As with most all late pears, the taste of this one becomes very sweet as starches go to sugars as the natural cold storage process happens in the fall. Hunter’s Deer pear™ ripens and falls free from the tree late October into Mid November. The natural process of Hunter’s deer pear™ ripening from the coldness of late October makes it a pear that is very desirable by all wildlife and deer alike. The Vigor is extreme, and the tree is overproductive. We would advise thinning fruit to avoid limb breakage. The original tree resides in the direct vicinity of pear trees with fireblight. However, this tree has remained clean in my years of watching it. I have never witnessed fireblight in this tree. Hunter’s deer pear™ is suitable for plant hardiness zones 4b-7 and will reach a mature height of 25′.+

The Hunter’s Deer Pear™ is made by using plant tissue from the original tree and attaching it to the new roots. This process essentially gives you an identical tree to the one you see in the picture and description.
TREE SIZE
2-3′ ( 3/8″ dia.) These trees will have a good root system. They will be whips around 3′ high with a trunk diameter of 3/8″.
3-5′ ( 1/2” dia.) These trees will have a good root system with some possible branching but will mainly be whips. They will range in height between 3′ to 5′ with a trunk diameter of around 1/2″.
4-6′ (+ 1/2” dia.) These trees have an extensive root system and can have multiple branches, but many will be solid whips. They will range in height between 4′ and 6′ with a trunk diameter of 1/2″ to 3/4″.
STANDARD ROOTSTOCK
Hunter’s deer pear™ is grafted to a vigorous, standard-sized rootstock that will reach a mature height of 20′-30’that is adaptable to acidic soils, poor soil conditions, and fertility. Produces a well-anchored solid tree that performs well in heavy soils. As a result, it will be suitable for more marginal areas that were wooded and are now food plots, reclaimed land, shale mountain soil, dryer uplands, and ridges, as well as tolerating more moist soils. Obviously, with that said, this rootstock will perform exceptionally well when planted in appropriate ph and nutrient-rich soils! We are only grafting onto the most vigorous standard rootstock. This rootstock is cold, hardy zones 4b – 8.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
Plant at least two different pear varieties close to each other to ensure pollination. The varieties of grafted pears we have for sale will continue to blossom and overlap, giving you excellent pollination. The Danville Kieffer pear tree is an excellent pollinator for both Asian and European varieties of pears.
Plant all pear trees in moist, well-drained soil with a soil ph between 5.5 – 7.2 with adequate nutrient levels for optimal growth. The above soil conditions will provide the most growth and fruit production. Pears are one fruit tree that will tolerate acidic soils with poor fertility. A fruit tree requires at least 6 hours of sunlight for fruit production and growth. Space trees 20′ apart and use cages of at least 5′ to protect your trees. Doing this will ensure your deer eat your fruit in a few years, not your trees this year.
