$19.95 – $34.95
This grafted pear tree produces a dessert quality pear. Ayer’s pear begins dropping in very late August to the beginning of September and pretty much finishes dropping by the end of September here in central Pennsylvania. As you move this tree south from here drop times will back up, as you move it north it will drop later. This is perfect timing here as the bucks begin shedding velvet and a few begin dispersing and setting up that new home range. I wouldn’t create an orchard that didn’t have fruit falling at this time so that you may be picking up some new bucks not losing them. Ayer’s is just one tree that is a good example of a tree that is capable of doing so. It’s a good tree that stays pretty disease free in a no spray situation. This tree has excellent vigor and produces annually. Ayer’s pear will reach a mature height of 20’+. Suitable for plant hardiness zones 5-7

AYER’S PEAR
This grafted pear tree produces a dessert-quality pear. Ayer’s pear begins dropping in very late August to the beginning of September and pretty much finishes dropping by the end of September here in central Pennsylvania. As you move this tree south from here drop times will back up, as you move it north, it will drop later.
The Ayer’s Pear is made by using plant tissue from the original tree and attaching it to the new roots. This is essentially giving you an identical tree of the one you see in the picture and description.
TREE SIZE
2-3′ ( 3/8” dia.) These trees will have a good root system. They will be whips around 3′ high with a trunk diameter of 3/8”.
3-5′ ( 1/2” dia.) These trees will have a good root system with some possible branching but will mainly be whips. They will range in height between 3′ to 5′ with a trunk diameter of around a 1/2”.
4-6′ (+ 1/2” dia.) These trees will have an extensive root system and typically having multiple branches but many will be solid whips. They will range in height between 4′ and 6′ with a trunk diameter of 1/2” to 3/4”.
STANDARD ROOTSTOCK
A vigorous, standard-sized seedling rootstock (20-30 feet high) that is adaptable to acidic soils, poor soil conditions and fertility. Produces a strong well anchored tree, that performs well in heavy soils. As a result, it will be good for more marginal areas like wooded food plots, reclaimed land, shale mountain soil, dryer uplands and ridges as well as tolerating more moist soils. We are only selecting the most vigorous standard rootstock to graft onto. This rootstock is cold hardy zones 4b – 8.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR AYER’S PEAR
Plant at least 2 different pear varieties within close proximity to each other to ensure pollination. The varieties of grafted pears we have for sale will blossom and overlap each other giving you excellent pollination. The Danville Kieffer pear tree is an excellent pollinator for both Asian and European varieties of pears.
Plant all pear trees in moist, well drained soil with a soil ph between 5.5 – 7.2 with adequate nutrient levels for optimal growth. The above soil conditions will provide the most growth and fruit production. Pears are one fruit tree which will also tolerate acidic soils with poor fertility. Ayer’s pear requires at least 6 hours of sunlight for fruit production and growth. Space trees 20′ apart and use cages of at least 5’ to protect your trees. This will ensure your deer eat your fruit in a few years and not your trees this year.
