These two source trees are isolated most likely pollinating each other. These two trees both reside here in Pennsylvania but would make an excellent tree to plant from here to southern Wisconsin. The Woodland Chestnut trees are both near 80’ tall with a circumference that it would take 3 people hand in hand to go around these trees!
They produce an annual abundance of medium to large, very sweet chestnuts at a very early age ( 3-5 years depending on your soil conditions) which flower well after the chance of frost. Woodland Chestnuts are very fast growing, and will get HUGE! They have excellent blight resistance and are very cold hardy. These trees have been through “ambient temperature” of -22 degrees. The Woodland Chestnut will grow some truly GIANT chestnut trees! Do NOT plant in with fruit trees as they will end up shading out your entire orchard. They are an excellent tree for planting after a timber harvest.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
Plant at least two chestnut trees nearby for pollination. Woodlands Chestnut trees must be planted with a minimum of 50′ spacing (because these trees will get HUGE). They can grow in a wide variety of soil types, but I recommend avoiding very wet or heavy clay soil. These trees are tolerant to low pH and do well in a woodland setting. Requires 6 hours of sunlight for optimum growth and fruit production.
SHIPPING/PICK UP
Shipping to Plant Hardiness zones 2 – 8 will begin again in mid-March on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (you select your ship date) and continue until the last Monday in April. Dormant bare-root trees must be planted in the spring, while trees in your area remain dormant. You can select your ship date as you checkout on the website. If you are picking up your trees, typically, the last week in March or the first week in April is perfect for planting in Pennsylvania. We have opened up the free local pick-up to the surrounding states as it could be more cost-effective if you order more than 30 trees. You can select your pick-up date on the website as you checkout. Please call or message us to make an appointment to pick up your trees if you can not make the date you selected.
