Description

Fall Draw™ Hybrid Chinese Chestnut

Fall Draw™ Hybrid Chinese Chestnut treess are fast-growing, wildlife‑first trees selected for dependable yield, late‑season drop, and strong field performance. They mature to 40–60 feet, bloom after the risk of frost, and produce sweet, table‑quality nuts that whitetails devour. Consequently, they serve hunters and homesteaders equally well.

Why Fall Draw™ Matters for Hunters: Timing is critical in the fall. In Pennsylvania, parent trees typically drop from October 2–23, after most chestnuts have finished dropping. As a result, deer continue to visit your property during that season when a lot of movement is changing in the whitetail world. Moreover, the late drop helps concentrate movement when it matters most.

Staggered Genetics for Season‑Long Draw: Each tree from our parent group is genetically unique. Therefore, you get a natural spread of drop times—from late September through late October, with some into November, and rare outliers into January. This staggered timing extends food availability and, consequently, keeps deer engaged for weeks.

Proven Draw in the Field: When trees are dropping, nuts are often cleared nightly. Therefore, expect focused evening activity beneath producing trees. This behavior, in turn, is a reliable signal of strong preference and real‑world performance.

Fall Draw Performance and Hardiness

  • Growth: Fast, with consistent annual production.
  • Disease: Good resistance to blight for added reliability.
  • Cold‑tested: Thriving as far north as western NY (Zone 5).
  • Mature size: 40–60 ft with a broad, productive canopy.
  • Hardiness range: Zones 5–8, suitable for many sites.
  • Bloom: After the typical frost window, which helps protect flowers.

Planting Instructions

For dependable pollination, plant at least two chestnut trees close together. Maintain a minimum spacing of 35 feet, so canopies develop fully. Choose full sun—six or more hours daily—for best growth. Prefer well‑drained soils and avoid wet or heavy clay; however, these trees tolerate lower pH and fertility. Tree tubes of 60” vented work well.

Shipping and Pickup

At checkout, simply choose your preferred ship date. Plant bare-root trees in spring while local trees remain dormant. For local pickup in Pennsylvania, the last week of March or the first week of April is ideal. Additionally, free regional pickup is available for larger orders. Select a pickup date at checkout, or contact us to schedule another time.

Drop Timing and Variation

Because each seed‑grown tree is unique, your planting will include a useful mix of drop times. In turn, that variation sustains wildlife use from early fall through late season—delivering the Fall Draw™ advantage across your property.
