Bluebyrd is a great European-type plum that has excellent resistance to black knots. Black knot is one of the most common ailments to afflict plum trees. It is caused by the
fungus Apiosporina morbosa and will severely limit fruit production on plum trees and eventually cause death to the trees. Bluebyrd is a vigorous, hardy, productive tree with good black knot resistance! Bluebyrd produces fruit with bright blue skin, and the fruit’s flesh is yellow. The fruit it produces is medium to large, has a great flavor, and has a high sugar content. A tree like this will add diversity to your property with a different bloom time than apples, pears, and persimmons. The diversity in bloom is an excellent thing to ensure a crop. Plums will give the wildlife more food sources as a few bucks start dispersing in September, and soft mast is critical.
Bluebyrd is grafted onto a Standard seedling rootstock making this a large tree with 20+ height. This tree has a September drop time and is suitable for USDA plant hardiness zones of 5-8.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR BLUEBYRD PLUM
Plant Ny9® near Bluebyrd to ensure pollination. The varieties of grafted plums that we have for sale will blossom together, giving you excellent pollination. Plant Bluebyrd in moist, well-drained soil with a soil ph between 5.5 – 7.2 with adequate nutrient levels for optimal growth. The above soil conditions will provide the most growth and fruit production. Plums are above a pear tree for tolerating acidic soils with poor fertility and thriving. Bluebyrd plum requires at least 6 hours of sunlight for fruit production and growth. Space trees 20′ apart and use cages of at least 5′ to protect your trees. Use protection on the base of your tree, such as an aluminum window screen wrapped around it to protect it from smaller animals. This will ensure your deer eat your fruit in a few years, not your trees this year.
Bluebyrd plum is grafted onto Myro Plum. This is a “real root” grown from seed and will mature to a standard height of 20′ and excel with its vigor.
