Persimmon Rootstock for Bench Grafting and Chip Budding

Our premium persimmon rootstock gives you the ideal foundation for bench grafting or chip budding. We grow every rootstock to at least 1/4″ in diameter and develop a dense, healthy root system for outstanding establishment.

These 90-chromosome rootstocks work with both American and Asian persimmon varieties. They produce vigorous trees that can exceed 60 feet and develop deep roots that provide excellent drought tolerance.

Persimmon rootstock grows best in well-drained, fertile loam with a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0. It also adapts well to many other soil types. With adequate fertility, it performs well in heavier soils, including clay with a pH as low as 5.5. Avoid poorly drained sites because persimmons require good drainage for long-term health.

These rootstocks perform reliably in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-9. We grade every rootstock between 1/4″ and 3/8″ in diameter and trim the terminal bud before shipping, so each one arrives ready for grafting.

Persimmon Rootstock Shipping & Pick-Up

We ship to USDA Hardiness Zones 4-8. Spring shipping begins in mid-March, weather permitting, and continues each Monday through the last Monday in April. Plant dormant bare-root rootstock while trees in your area remain dormant. During checkout, choose your preferred shipping date.

If you plan to pick up your order, the first week of April typically provides ideal planting conditions in Pennsylvania. Please call or message us to schedule a pickup appointment.
