Description

PennsylvaniaDelight™ Mulberry Tree

The PennsylvaniaDelight™ mulberry tree produces some of the largest, sweetest, and best-tasting mulberries we have ever evaluated. After evaluating many mulberry varieties here in central Pennsylvania, this tree has proven itself to be exceptional for fruit size, flavor, productivity, and wildlife attraction.

Although Blue Hill Wildlife Nursery specializes in trees for wildlife, PennsylvaniaDelight™ deserves a place in every backyard, homestead, and wildlife orchard. The fruit is so sweet and flavorful that it belongs on the kitchen table just as much as it belongs in the woods.

Fruit Production

PennsylvaniaDelight™ begins ripening in Mid to late June here in central Pennsylvania. Rather than dropping all of its fruit at once, it produces a steady crop over approximately three weeks. This extended drop period provides fresh fruit for people while creating a dependable summer food source for wildlife.

The fruit is exceptionally large for a mulberry and has outstanding sweetness. In our opinion, it is the best-tasting mulberry we have ever grown.

The fruit is excellent for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Homemade pies
  • Jams and jellies
  • Smoothies
  • Freezing
  • Sharing with family and friends
  • Relished by all wildlife

Wildlife Value

PennsylvaniaDelight™ is more than just an outstanding fruit tree for people. It is also an exceptional mulberry tree for deer.

As fruit begins falling in Late June, deer quickly discover the tree and eagerly consume the berries. The fruit also attracts wild turkeys, songbirds, squirrels, and many other wildlife species.

Planting a PennsylvaniaDelight™ mulberry tree creates an important summer food source that is often unavailable from many other fruit trees.

Disease Resistance for PennsylvaniaDelight™ Mulberry Tree

Over years of observation, PennsylvaniaDelight™ has remained exceptionally clean and has shown excellent resistance to common mulberry diseases.

Its dependable health and vigorous growth make it an outstanding choice for both wildlife plantings and backyard orchards.

Hardiness and Tree Size

PennsylvaniaDelight™ grows well in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5b-9.

The tree reaches approximately 25 feet at maturity, making it an ideal size for wildlife orchards, homesteads, and landscape plantings.

One additional benefit is that this mulberry is self-fertile, meaning it produces abundant fruit without requiring another mulberry tree for pollination.

Planting Requirements

For the best growth and fruit production, plant Pennsylvania Delight™ in full sun and well-drained soil.

For the best results:

  • Plant in a location receiving at least six hours of sunlight each day.
  • Space trees approximately 20 to 25 feet apart.
  • Protect young trees with a tree cage where deer browsing is heavy.
  • Perform a soil test before planting whenever possible.

Once established, PennsylvaniaDelight™ requires very little maintenance while producing dependable fruit crops for decades.

Why Choose Pennsylvania Delight™ Mulberry Tree?

Many mulberry trees produce good fruit. Very few produce fruit that truly stands out.

PennsylvaniaDelight™ earned its name by producing exceptionally large, incredibly sweet mulberries that everyone enjoys. In our experience, it is the finest mulberry we have evaluated. The tree combines outstanding fruit quality, dependable annual production, excellent disease resistance, and tremendous wildlife value.

Whether you’re planting a mulberry tree for deer, creating a wildlife orchard, or simply looking for one of the best mulberries available for your family, PennsylvaniaDelight™ is a tree you’ll appreciate for generations.
