Many customers ask…Can I grow persimmons north of their “native” southern range? The answer is a simple “YES”….as long as they are the right varieties. Deer Luscious™ and Full Draw™ persimmons are both very cold hardy. These trees are a no brainer. Persimmons are easy to grow in a wide variety of soils and produce heavy crops of tasty fruit every year. There is no chance of late frosts wiping out your crop because they bloom in June. It is a commonly held belief that persimmons need a frost before they can be eaten. This assumption is simply not true. All the varieties that we have available will be dropping free from the tree orange and ripe. This is something that’s very important in the north. why? Because a deer don’t want to eat an astringent half green persimmons, just like we would not want to either. We have a wide variety of persimmons available with specific drop times creating an excellent food source for deer. Persimmons trees have little to no insect or disease issues and require no spraying. Most of all…..THEY ARE RELISHED BY WHITETAIL DEER!
